Why are stories important?

Why should we tell stories?

Do you like making up your own stories?

What do you like to write stories about?

Look at the history of story telling. I think you will recognise when story telling began from one of the first slides about the caves.

Have a look at the iceberg image and try to write a story. Use the extra things added on the file to help you.

Dream Jars

In the story of the BFG the giant saves the dreams in jars.

I have put some pictures on for you to see these jars. You could draw a jar or make one. I have included a template for a box you could make.

In my house we have decorated a jar we had and every time we wish we could do something like play in the park or go to the cafe then we write in down and place the wish in the jar. Then when things go back to normal which will hopefully be really soon then we will take one wish out at a time and do the thing which we were missing. Our jar is getting full now. Its going to be exciting to do all the things we are really missing.

George's Marvellous Medicine

Today have a think about this story. Follow the link if you are unfamiliar with the story. You can listen to the full story or just learn a brief bit of information about the story.

In this book George is left to look after his Grandma. She isn't a very kind lady so George decides instead of giving her medicine that she usually has that he will make her his own medicine. The medicine turns out to have special powers.

I want you to think about making  a medicine. What kind of medicine would it be? What would you like the medicine to be able to do. Write a list of ingredients, then some instructions on how to make the medicine. Finally you can tell me all about its special power. Use your imagination. I can't wait to hear your ideas.

I hope you have enjoyed Easter. I bet you still have lots of Easter eggs left to eat.

I was reading an article online the other day and they were talking about all the packaging and waste which comes from all the Easter eggs that we eat. Lots of the packaging can be recycled but lots of company's still use too much packaging. One company is asking children to become little inventors and think of a way that company's could get Easter eggs from their factory to the supermarket shelves and then to our homes without them breaking.

Could they change the material they use?

What material are you able to recycle?

Could they change the size of the packaging they use?

Enjoy becoming inventors.

Easter Holidays April 2020

Good Morning children. I hope you are having a lovely Easter holidays so far.

A lovely idea I have seen online that I thought you may enjoy is that you organise a meal for someone. This could even be a picnic. It would be your job to prepare a menu, set the table or picnic blanket and arrange the food and drinks. Use the things you have at home. Think about things that your family may enjoy eating and drinking.

This could even be a pretend meal that you plan for now and when we are back at school we could organise a meal to have together. A bit like our Roman banquet we were planning to have.

New Zealand

Can you remember our mini project on New Zealand? We learnt some wonderful things.

I thought I would add the picture of our Haka to remind you how fabulous you all were. Can you still do it?

For this activity I would like you to use your imagination.  A Maori tribal family are coming to visit you and they need somewhere to stay. You have to design a holiday home for them to stay in. You may draw, paint or even build a model. What do you think they would like it to have? What would the home need? Would you build a home like a tipi or caravan or a home like your own? Be as creative as you like.

Can you write me a few sentences to tell me about the home you have designed to go with your picture or model please?

Have fun.

If you would like to send me a picture of your work you can email me them to  ' office@olv.bcwcat.co.uk ' . I would love to see what you have come up with.

Fabulous Facts for Spring 1

Year 3 - Spring Term 2020

Welcome back after the Christmas holidays.  We have started our work this term and the children have shown that they are eager to progress in their learning. This letter details some of the things your child will be covering over the coming term, as well as how you can support them at home.

While the particular areas of focus are in reading, writing and maths, there is a continued effort to ensure that the children remain enthusiastic about learning through exploring exciting topics.  This is supported by our Fabulous Facts which are also available on our web page. Please look at these with your child and discuss the information given.

Please practise times tables with your child at home.

In English we are focusing on the book Escape to Pompeii which will supplement our Roman topic this term.
